The
"Police Orchestra of the Saarland" - at the moment
a group of 32 musicians including one female player - can meet
the musical demands of the market.
Intensive rehearsals are often restricted by unexpected police
operations as well as by the daily work. At least half of the
time, almost all musicians perform ordinary police service; their
office belongs to the department of the riot police in Saarbrücken
(see chart).
Nevertheless,
the CD- productions, radio and TV broadcasting for and with the
cooperation of the "Saarländischer Rundfunk" and
last but not least the numerous successful concerts in the Saarland
and the neighbouring regions show that the department performs
its task of public relations for our police.
In
order to be able to fulfill the challenging expectations of a
steadily changing market the office keeps different groups:
The
big brass orchestra, i.e. the group which is represented
understandably by all 32 musicians, feel comfortable about
playing a broad range of styles. The repertoire is certain
to fulfill the wishes of the audience and therefore, it
is not surprising that the sophisticated light music usually
represents the largest part of the concerts.
As
a matter of course the department has also a Big Band
composed of the members of the brass orchestra. Rainer
Dietrich is the leader of the 19-headed group of musicians.
Due to his singing and a huge number of self written compositions
he fulfills nearly all wishes that the public of such
a group of musicians may have.
With
the brass wind quintet and other wind sections that
are composed according to the particular demand, the department
faces up with the task that is assigned by its supreme employer:
to pursue public relations on behalf of the Saarland Police
as well as to cultivate and to improve the contact between
the citizens and the police.
